Sir John Holmes in conversation with Anthony Seldon – Monday 21st January 2019 6.30pm – Vinson Building

In the next few months the UK could hold a general election, a referendum or both! The Electoral Commission is the independent body that oversees the process and career diplomat, Sir John Holmes, who is now Chairman of the Commission, is likely to be very busy safeguarding our right to elect our leaders. This discussion will go to the very heart of what makes it important to preserve our hard won democratic rights and will probably touch on everything from voter turnout to foreign intervention. This just might be the most important discussion of what will be a “complicated” year. The head of the Electoral Commission talking to the preeminent political biographer – quite an event.

Sir John Holmes is author of The Politics of Humanity: The Reality of Relief Aid
