26 Yaw Asiyama – Me, Marley & I – 7.00pm Saturday 17 June – Vinson Building
Me, Marley & I
Saturday 17 June
7-9pm (includes 30 min interval when delicious Ghanaian food will be available to buy)
Playwright, musician, chef, and poet Yaw Asiamah takes to the stage to perform his play Me, Marley & I.
Gloriously funny and warm, this is a story of brutal survival, true love, and friendship, based on Asiyama’s teenage years during the 1970s revolution in Ghana. His bitter-sweet portrait brings to life a different time in a different culture, told with the backdrop of Bob Marley’s reggae music performed live.
Yaw said: ‘I was brought up too well, not to question the wrongs that surrounded me. However, this was not a positive survival trait in angry times. My only saving grace was the wisdom of my grandmother, the power of first love, and my total immersion into Marley’s Music. Everything’s Gonna Be Alright!’.
Why not go for the full Ghanaian experience? A selection of delicious Ghanaian food will be available to buy on the night. No need to pre-book.
