As relations between Russia and the UK get to a 21st century fever pitch, it might be time to learn from earlier interactions between our two countries. The Imperial Tea Party chronicles three fraught meetings between the British and Russian Royal families in the lead up to the demise of the Romanovs in 1918. While the courts of King George V and Tsar Nicholas 11 dealt with the sticky niceties of seniority, dinner menus, sore feet and tooth-ache, revolutionaries on both sides of the channel busily plotted their downfall. Frances Welch, who has written extensively on the Romanovs, will bring all this drama to life.
Accompanied by the now legendary Festival Tea.
